RegionalUnless governments and donors work together to find regional solutions to the HRH crisis, most countries in the Africa region will continue to experience a decline in health outcomes. The World Bank is in a unique position to mobilize governments and donors (including Bank units and staff in the education, public and private sectors) and foster commitment towards addressing the HRH crisis in the Africa Region. Accordingly, the regional component of the AHRH program seeks to: Foster political will and commitment of governments across the Africa region to address HRH. This includes organizing and participating in regional conferences and workshops that bring together government representatives from across the Africa region to discuss HRH: to help foster country led action, global responsibility and collective solidarity, and to facilitate HRH planning and implementation. Mobilize donor agencies, organizations, and public health professionals around HRH. This includes forging alliances with partners at external meetings, and organizing HRH learning events for World Bank staff and external organizations and agencies in DC. Such events foster discussion on HRH and associated learning amongst donors and World Bank staff, and encourage public health professionals within and outside the Bank to integrate HRH into their Africa agendas. Produce research documentation and analytical papers specific to HRH in the Africa Region. The regional component of the HRH program is funding several research papers to address the knowledge gap on HRH specific to the Africa region. The papers will assist governments and donors across the region (as opposed to papers that focus on a specific country only) diagnose and evaluate the HRH crisis in Africa, and develop appropriate programs. |
